Diane's Wonderful Sponsoring
Experience
Reflections of a South Shore, MA, Woman about Her
"Girl"
I have been blessed to be a sponsor to a
young girl, Berlanda, in the Cotin Village for about five years. I must reiterate that it has truly been a
blessing and a joy to know that the Lord has made it possible for someone like me to be given the opportunity
and ability to help in this way.
I would like to share with you how it has
expanded my life. Just to receive an occasional letter, report card and other correspondences, which always
include many heartwarming thanks from this young girl, makes me understand more about how grateful I need to be
for what I have to share, and much more about true humility in the face of dire circumstances, that have really
opened my eyes and heart.
It is more than just a wonderful feeling
that I am doing something good for someone else. Berlanda is the oldest of six children, whose father died
several years ago and her mother is currently disabled due to an accident. Though her mother still manages to
get some bit of work, it is not hard to imagine how hard life must be for them to
manage.
As a sponsor, and for a very small amount
monthly, Berlanda is able to attend school, get some school supplies and shoes and one meal a day to sustain
her. With this, the hope is that she will, not only become an educated member of her society and be able to earn
a living for herself, but will also share what she learns with her siblings and by this will further her entire
family. This could quite feasibly benefit many of those around her in her village as
well.
Believe me when I say, as I'm sure many
others in my shoes can also attest to, that I get so much more than I give. I am blessed! The pictures I receive
from my "child" prove to be a constant encouragement, as well as a daily reminder to me, that we not only serve
a Gracious, All-knowing and Powerful God, but One who knows exactly how we can touch and be a part of someone's
life, even so far away. He proves nothing is too distant or too difficult for
Him.
I also know that it is not so small of a
thing to think that in a mere juxtaposition of fate or circumstances it could be me in need of
reaching out for help. Again, I would like to say "thanks" to people like [PWH] who have a heart to serve in
this way. It is a very special and unselfish work with many
rewards.
Sincerely, With the Love of Christ, Diane
