The most powerful earthquake to hit Haiti in a century struck shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 and was centered about 10 miles (15 kilometers) from Port-au-Prince. At least 10 aftershocks followed leaving structures of all kinds damaged or collapsed. Millions are likely displaced, and thousands injured and in need of assistance.
